AI in Education: campus conversations led by iLH

On June 21, 2023, Innovative learning hub arranged the first public talk that opens up campus conversations about AI in education. The first talk “Recent Advances in Language Vision Models, Related Research at ISSAI, and Speculative Implications for Teaching” was delivered by Prof. Atakan Varol who shared his insights on the latest developments in artificial intelligence, focusing on large language models and their remarkable capabilities. Specifically, ChatGPT was exemplified as a general-purpose technology that can serve as a glimpse into artificial general intelligence (AGI). The shortcomings of ChatGPT, such as hallucination, overconfidence, and bias, were also discussed. The talk delved into ISSAI’s recent research on assistive systems for the cognitively and visually impaired, leveraging recent advances in language vision models. The audience discussed the transformative potential of these technologies on education, exploring future changes, challenges, and opportunities.
